TAD Completed!!!

For the first time every I have completed Thing-A-Day! I drew something every single day of February. How cool is that?!

Good smells, tasty tea, and sea life

I’m keeping up with TAD this year! And it’s already day 20! I don’ t think I’ve ever been on such an art stretch before. It’s pretty cool.

This drawing is of my little red betta Pineapple. He was watching me while I was drawing him, and then when I finished he moved to a better position to draw where you can see his beautiful fins. Go figure 🙂

I watched a national geographic show about ‘Migrations’ and they had a crab migration on there. I was inspired to draw crabs. They are such cute, yet creepy little characters.

We had an art therapy session at work. Luckily I had some slow time and I was able to participate. I made an orange pomander. I’ve never made one before, but I love love love the smell of citrus and cinnamon. I can’t wait til it dries a bit more, then the smell will be a bit stronger.

Yesterday I had some ‘Wild Strawberry Tea’. The packet was so pretty I decided to draw it. This was some tea I had gotten in a tea swap a while back. When brewed it has this beautiful deep red color. It did not need any sweetener, and it was rather fresh tasting. Unfortunately, my tummy hurt afterward. I think I would still try it again, just to be sure. It is very good. I don’t think I’ve ever tried tea from Heath & Heather before. I really like their marketing (the illustrations on their tea packets).

Plus I read that drinking white or herbal tea is the same as drinking water, so it counts towards my 8 glasses of water a day! Bonus.

What will she do next!!!

Foxy Christmas Cactus

This first drawing is in honor of my Christmas Cactus getting it’s first bloom (the cactus that I drew is not mine). I can’t wait to watch the flower open!

This painting is of one of my favorite Tshirts. I got it on Threadless.com where people can submit their own designs. I like the idea that someday I can design a tshirt that people would actually wear and I’d get paid for it. Fun little dream.

What?! She lives!!!!

So….longest art hiatus ever….but I’m back. And doing something new!

I was able to go to a stained glass class yesterday. It was a ton of fun and I enjoyed it more then I expected too. It is really fun to make. Yesterday I made a mirror.

For my first time soldering I did a pretty good job. It’s tricky and will definitely take some practice. I think I will like doing this….which is odd since I’ve never been a fan of stained glass. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate it and the work that goes into it…but I’ve never been one to buy anything stained glass.

Do you see how the connected pieces have a rounded look. (ignore the top corner) That’s what I was trying to do. It is harder then you’d think because if you hold it the soldering iron on for too long it makes a bigger hole and if you don’t hold it on long enough it looks funny. Tricky tricky.

This is the detail in the stained glass if you look at it just right.

I was so excited, that even though it was late, my dad stayed up with me and taught me what they learned in the first class (I came in on the third, it’s the only class of 5 that I could make).

TURTLES!!!!! I love them!!! (guess what everyone is getting for Christmas this year?)

This is the very first turtle I made (the blue one is the one my dad made to show me how to do it.) I added the eyes on the top. These guys are fun. I”m actually going to make a few more tonight.

So yes, I do live. I’ve just been distracted with life. But I hope to make a come back in my art! Slowly but surely!!

TAD Finished

Well, it’s March first, which means Thing-A-Day is over. I completed more then half the month before work and sickness won out. I’m sad I didn’t actually complete the challenge of doing something everyday, but it’s been a good month overall. Maybe I’ll put myself up the the challenge a different month of this year.

This ATC is for a lucky cat swap. I’m happy with how it came out. Since it’s a few days late I also made a lucky bamboo ATC for my swap partner.

The next ATC swap was for the Year of the Tiger, the Chinese New Year. I love tiger’s eyes. They fascinate me. I don’t think I captured them well, but I did a good job.  They are brighter then they came out in the scan

This is by far my favorite one. I pictured a simplified version of a tiger stalking through a bamboo forest. I just wanted to give a hint of the bamboo. I really like how this one came out. I almost kept it for myself I liked it so much. But I thought I should share my success with someone else. I didn’t use a reference, just free hand with ink and then a light wash of watercolor.

I renewed my ‘drawing birds with colored pencils’ book from the library. I hope to draw a few more before I give it back.
