TAD Finished

Well, it’s March first, which means Thing-A-Day is over. I completed more then half the month before work and sickness won out. I’m sad I didn’t actually complete the challenge of doing something everyday, but it’s been a good month overall. Maybe I’ll put myself up the the challenge a different month of this year.

This ATC is for a lucky cat swap. I’m happy with how it came out. Since it’s a few days late I also made a lucky bamboo ATC for my swap partner.

The next ATC swap was for the Year of the Tiger, the Chinese New Year. I love tiger’s eyes. They fascinate me. I don’t think I captured them well, but I did a good job.  They are brighter then they came out in the scan

This is by far my favorite one. I pictured a simplified version of a tiger stalking through a bamboo forest. I just wanted to give a hint of the bamboo. I really like how this one came out. I almost kept it for myself I liked it so much. But I thought I should share my success with someone else. I didn’t use a reference, just free hand with ink and then a light wash of watercolor.

I renewed my ‘drawing birds with colored pencils’ book from the library. I hope to draw a few more before I give it back.

Pointillism

This was an ATC I made for a Pointillism swap. My partner liked dragons and mushrooms, I like how it came out. Although now I remember why I haven’t done pointillism in forever.

I got a tabletop easel for Christmas, so I hope to be painting more often and bigger now. I got a few canvases, different sizes, now I just need a picture I really like or a project to work on. Any suggestions?

Late ATCs

I have a bad habit of either A) not feeling it or B) just being lazy….and so my ATCs tend to get sent out later then the due date. This is not fair for my partners. Even though they get the ATC and usually some fun extras….I should be able to be discplined enough to get them out on time! So my new goal is just that. Get my ATCs out before the due date! Let’s do this thing!

I tried to do another variation on the fish swimming out of the window into the sky again. Once again, it’s not exactly what I was going for, but I think it’s cute. This was my surreal theme.

My favorite horse is the Friesian. I absolutely love these majestic creatures. I am however…not very good at painting black things….so these horses are normally gray, but that’s what he is in my picture. I attempted a fall like background, which colorful leaves.  It looks washed out here, but that white has bright yellow actually. I’m okay with how this one came out. I haven’t drawn horses for a long time.

This is my happy buddha. I like how he came out. For the highlights I used art masking fluid, and then tried to drag some of the color over it, because they really were Highlights! Then I did a fun watercolor wash for the background…there are more pinks, reds, and oranges then my scanner picked up. Then I made the background, which really added to it. This is probably my favorite of any I’ve done in awhile.

My last art swap’s theme was ‘The Mess of Me’. I just had to incorperate everything I could that was ‘me’ on one card. It was harder to do then I imagined, and it didn’t quite come out like I had hoped it would. I think I might try this again in my sketchbook. It’s a fun idea to play with.

And on another note, my first christmas craft was…a fail…but I learned from in and the second one looks much better. So I’m still spending a lot of time on that.

Happy Holidays!

Sketch Crawl!

Alright, so I’ve been meaning to write this one for a while. I’m to tired to put the drawings in order, sorry. It has been a very good Thanksgiving and I am tired.

I really like this first fish drawing. It’s got a light green background that didn’t scan in, but I just picture him saying ‘hi there!’

This second one is an ATC for a surreal swap. I’m in a fish mood I guess. I read something about flying fish and this is what came to mind.

I went to a sketch crawl this past weekend. It was pretty cool. I found a very neat little tea house and met lots of other artists. Plus I got to draw for two hours which was very nice. This is the website to the idea of sketchcrawl: http://www.sketchcrawl.com/index.html

It was hosted by Utrecth so I got some cute erasers and a pencil for going. I hope they host more of those because I really did have fun.

This is the second page I did on my sketch crawl. I was trying this idea out for my surreal swap, but I haven’t refined it yet. I still really like the idea of fish swimming in a window with a sky for a background. I think I will play with this idea for a little bit longer.

One of my other challenges was a cute robot swap. It  was harder to draw a ‘cute robot’ then I thought it was going to be. I like how they came out though. I got the dino robot idea from my friend.

I started drawing this ATC but I fell in love with the simplicity of it. So I haven’t finished it, but it is sitting on my desk. It just makes me smile.

Since I am making most of my Christmas gifts I will not be updating my blog unless the recipient have received them…..or I get the time to work on other things besides gifts.

Hedgies!

Yay for art! So for my art swap challenge I had to make a Hedgie ATC. I decided to do it Sumi-e style. Don’t ask me why, because I don’t know. I think it came out alright.

I had to draw quite a few hedgies before I finally picked one.

I finally got around to drawing my desert woman. She’s been hiding in my bathroom. If you’ve ever seen my bathroom, that statement will make sense to you. We used sponges and a few different colors to decorate the bathroom walls – so there are lots of different shapes and colors for my imagination to work with when I brush my teeth or blow dry my hair. I have found eagles, dogs, dinosaurs, owls, people, and usually it always changes. For some reaons though I have always been able to find my desert woman, she never changes and I’ve been wanting to draw he for awhile. So I finally did.

desest womanI’m sure I’ll draw her again. It’s amazing where inspiration comes from isn’t it?
