Hedgies!

Yay for art! So for my art swap challenge I had to make a Hedgie ATC. I decided to do it Sumi-e style. Don’t ask me why, because I don’t know. I think it came out alright.

I had to draw quite a few hedgies before I finally picked one.

I finally got around to drawing my desert woman. She’s been hiding in my bathroom. If you’ve ever seen my bathroom, that statement will make sense to you. We used sponges and a few different colors to decorate the bathroom walls – so there are lots of different shapes and colors for my imagination to work with when I brush my teeth or blow dry my hair. I have found eagles, dogs, dinosaurs, owls, people, and usually it always changes. For some reaons though I have always been able to find my desert woman, she never changes and I’ve been wanting to draw he for awhile. So I finally did.

desest womanI’m sure I’ll draw her again. It’s amazing where inspiration comes from isn’t it?

Quote Card

I collect quotes, so I enjoyed this challenge. It was to pick a favorite quote (very difficult) and then to draw it. I really enjoyed doing this. I’m working on a whole book of quotes. What I think I might do is make a sketchbook of quotes and drawings that go with them.

Gotta love ATCs. I really like the one of the left, I think the one of the right could have come out better. I didn’t use the best watercolor paper, so I think that has a lot to do with it.

Zoo Sketches!

I really like the little vulture at the bottom of the page.

The tigers were leaning against the wall to cool down, it was a really hot day. So…that’s what this drawing is supposed to be.

Some giraffe sketches. I really like how these came out. These guys are the reason I fought to get to the zoo on a free Monday. I just wanted to draw giraffes. The one on the top left is my favorite.

Lady Love and Last Watercolor Class

I named this first painting lady love (my teacher was not amused by the little lady bug I snuck in my painting). It’s the poppies that I set aside and didn’t finish forever because I was afraid I would ruin the potential. I really liked the painting. It didn’t come out as good as I had hoped. It would have come out better if I had finished it while the project was still fresh in my mind. Instead I waited a few weeks and finished it at my last watercolor class.  Anyway, I am going to do more paintings like this because I would like to get better at flowers.

lady-loveHaha, actually now that I look at it, I realized I left the leaves and dark spaces unfinished. Oh well.

I also did a value study because I’m still learning about colors. This is just darkest to lightest with all my colors. Some of them came out great, most didn’t, but it was a good little learning experience, plus it’s pretty on my wall. :) Sorry about the crappy picture…this paper doesn’t fit on my scanner.

And then this was my first attempt at a color mixing chart. EPIC FAIL. And it take forever to do, but I really do think this will help me, since so far in most of my paintings and whatnot I tend to mix and use the same few colors when I have all these to choose from. So I mix everything 50/50 – which is why it’s a triangle. I was supposed to mix it 2:1 colomn:row. Now I know…new one will be better. And that was with my new lil travel watercolor kit….I really can’t imagine trying to do the 24 colors of my actual paint set.

ATCs

I finally finished some ATCs for an art swap….and now I have to start on the ones due Thurs. Woot. I had to do one that represented each of the four seasons, and I’m  happy with how they came out. They’re quite cute. (top left: Fall, top right: winter, bottom left: spring, bottom right: summer)

I also did my classic pond scene and two more of the baby amazon milk frogs. Now onto the next challenge!!!
