Promised Sketches

I’m not posting as often as I really want to. I’m going to try to change this. So here are some sketches I’ve done within the last few weeks. I finally got my scanner working. YAY!

wine barThis is a sketch of a wine bar my friend discovered. Lucky for me she was late showing up, so I got a chance to sketch a little bit. I really like the atmosphere of this place, I’ll most likely go back to sketch some more.

buhdaThis statue piqued my interest at a pool party. I didn’t mean to be anti-social, but I had to sketch it. I really need to learn how to shade with my micron pens.

lion koalaI made myself go sketch at the zoo. I wasn’t really in the mood, but I really really am trying to draw more. So I did not do to many drawing, but these are two of them. I really like how the koala came out. I used a conte pencil for the first time, much less messy then conte crayons.

Shading seems to be my biggest problem. I’m intimidated by it, I don’t do it because I tend to ruin drawings when I do instead of enchancing the subject. I’ll learn, but in order to do that I have to tackle it, not avoid it. So I think that will be my project for the rest of the month. Work on shading. Which means, I’m sorry to say, there’s going to be lots of bad drawings on this blog for awhile.

I like art supplies and drawing because I can create something beautiful even though I’m feeling ugly inside. I’m not at the moment, but I realized this as I was browsing the art store in a bad mood yesterday. I thought I would share, because this seemed very important to me. That I could create beauty when I couldn’t find any myself.

Finished Sketchbook!

I have finished my sketchbook and I love it. I know I didn’t do my best on the last three pages, and I’m a little disappointed about that, but other then that, this was a wonderful thing. I was more creative and imaginative then I have been in a long time. I really hope to continue what I started in this sketchbook. And since I finished it on time, I’m going to reward myself with a pastel sketchpad. Woot!

I’m working on a painting from my last watercolor class of poppies, and I will definitely post that here when I’m finished. I’ve just been concentrating on this sketchbook cause it needs to be done by Monday so I can send it in. Let me know what you think!

Weekend of Watercolors

I had my archery tournament this weekend, and whenever I wasn’t shooting, I was painting. I got done alot, and most of them I really like. I also started a new sketchbook, so we’ll start with that. (It’s going to be a long post, with lots of pictures).

On the first page of my sketchbook it says:

Rules I want to/would normally follow: 1. No mistakes, only beautiful perfect drawings allowed here. 2. No mispelled words or cross-outs. 3. Use every page. 4. No ugly pages.

Rules I’m going to follow: 1. It’s okay to make mistakes. 2. Experiment, Learn, Have Fun! 3. Loosen Up. 4. No tearing out pages. 5. If you don’t like something – work on it until you do. 6. Use whatever pages you want – make notes, draw to your hearts content. 7. Fill up this notebook. 8. Ink or color everything.

This is the first page of actual drawing. I was going to color it, but I kind of like it in black and white. It’s whimsical to me.

journal

I decided not to use this style for my sketchbook, but it is the style I’m going to use for the illustrated journal I’m going to try and keep. Just trying it out. I did an observational drawing of a covered fountain. Not that interesting, but that’s okay.

Okay, enough about my sketchbook, on to my watercolor paintings I did.  The first one I tried to do a larger fish painting…I don’t like how it came out…but that’s okay.

The second one I did was of an archer. I accidentally got some red lines from my red nailpolish on the paper…so that’s why the sunflowers are there. I paniced and didn’t know what to do to cover them up. No reference for them….so if you ignore the sunflowers, I think it turned out well.

This is my favorite painting. I absolutely love it. It’s called translucent giraffe on a beach. (the giraffe was supposed to be a cobblestone path, but I went past my perspective so it looked weird. Someone said it should be a giraffe….so for fun I did. And I Love It!)

And last, but not least, this is the painting I’m working on.

colorful-giraffeI have no idea what they’re looking at, if you know….let me know. Thanks!

And that wraps up the weekend. Have a great week everyone!

Hello world!

This is my first post in my art journal. I appreciate any comments or helpful hints. If you expect good art, you’re in the wrong place. I’m sure I might make something decent once in awhile, but for the most part, this is just fun. So there’s going to be lots more ‘bad’ then ‘good’.
