Squirrel Box

Okay….so the gallery settings confuse me. I can’t get them in the right order. But there is a picture of before and after. I also put a few close-ups. I bought this box for 8 dollars thinking it would be very useful for art supplies and what-not. The only problem is there are squirrel stickers on the top and the side of the box. I tried pulling them off, but they are attached much to well. So I left them, but then I decided to add labels….then I got to thinking about painting the labels because I didn’t want to put labels on it…and well….that’s the end result. So that’s been my art project around work.

I also made a necklace today. I like it a lot. I will be adding some drawings and paintings soon.

Caught Up! Art Swaps!

I know I haven’t been around. I got in a bad funk, but now I’m back, posting, and working on art. Yay! These are some pieces I’ve finished in the last few days.

tea

This challenge was to create a piece with tea and a dessert. Yay blueberry muffins!

out pocket

in pocket

This challenge was to create an ATC with a pocket on it. The little card says “Some day’s there won’t be a song in your heart. Sing anyway.”

geisha

This challenge said to include geishas. I was going to draw one, but I wanted to incorperate the japanese paper and lettering. And let’s not lie, I was on a bit of a time crunch. I’ll probably draw a geisha soonly, I have a few reference photos I want to use.

Last, but not Least……

puppup 1

I got to paint the fire hydrant outside of the vet clinic. I think it came out alright. It makes me smile and I’ve gotten some fun compliments on it.

And that’s all for now. Tune in next time for……some other stuff!

Ganesh

So I had an India art swap, I had to create something that represented India on a little ATC card. I picked Ganesh, which…is a very detailed subject. I didn’t get as detailed as I would have liked, but I’m very pleased with how it came out.

kSorry it’s crooked….I didn’t realize I had scanned it that way until I had mailed the ATC.  And it didn’t pick up the shadows and light colors as well as I would have hoped.

Olive Trees with Yellow Sky and Sun

So I needed to do a painting for one of my art swaps. I’ve been very intimidated by this because I’ve never done a painting for anyone else. It’s the biggest acrylic painting I’ve ever attempted (5×7 – don’t laugh) and I used Van Gogh’s ‘Olive Trees with Yellow Sky and Sun’ as my subject. (I think that’s what it’s called, but I’m not positive). It is my favorite painting by him.

Now…please don’t laugh…..this one is mine.

Picture 005

I know it’s fuzzy. I had to take a picture because I could not scan the painting because of the texture. And I couldn’t use a flash because it is so shiny. But that’s it. I like it, I really hope my swap partner does too. I’m going to paint another one for myself.

I used plastic palette knives to get the texture and I really do enjoy working with paint like that. We shall see what else I come up with. I know I promised a ‘Starry Night’ for one of my roommates. :)

Weekend of Watercolors

I had my archery tournament this weekend, and whenever I wasn’t shooting, I was painting. I got done alot, and most of them I really like. I also started a new sketchbook, so we’ll start with that. (It’s going to be a long post, with lots of pictures).

On the first page of my sketchbook it says:

Rules I want to/would normally follow: 1. No mistakes, only beautiful perfect drawings allowed here. 2. No mispelled words or cross-outs. 3. Use every page. 4. No ugly pages.

Rules I’m going to follow: 1. It’s okay to make mistakes. 2. Experiment, Learn, Have Fun! 3. Loosen Up. 4. No tearing out pages. 5. If you don’t like something – work on it until you do. 6. Use whatever pages you want – make notes, draw to your hearts content. 7. Fill up this notebook. 8. Ink or color everything.

This is the first page of actual drawing. I was going to color it, but I kind of like it in black and white. It’s whimsical to me.

journal

I decided not to use this style for my sketchbook, but it is the style I’m going to use for the illustrated journal I’m going to try and keep. Just trying it out. I did an observational drawing of a covered fountain. Not that interesting, but that’s okay.

Okay, enough about my sketchbook, on to my watercolor paintings I did.  The first one I tried to do a larger fish painting…I don’t like how it came out…but that’s okay.

The second one I did was of an archer. I accidentally got some red lines from my red nailpolish on the paper…so that’s why the sunflowers are there. I paniced and didn’t know what to do to cover them up. No reference for them….so if you ignore the sunflowers, I think it turned out well.

archer

This is my favorite painting. I absolutely love it. It’s called translucent giraffe on a beach. (the giraffe was supposed to be a cobblestone path, but I went past my perspective so it looked weird. Someone said it should be a giraffe….so for fun I did. And I Love It!)

giraffe

And last, but not least, this is the painting I’m working on.

colorful-giraffeI have no idea what they’re looking at, if you know….let me know. Thanks!

And that wraps up the weekend. Have a great week everyone!
