First EVER Self Portrait

I’ve never attempted a self portrait before. For some reason I have always been terrified of how it would turn out. And not only did I draw it, but in pen too! Something I’m still learning about. I always hated the idea of lines that didn’t belong and permanent mistakes. But if I ever really want to be an artist I definitely need to get over that!

I started an art journal. I’ve always loved illustrated journals. It amazed me how people could keep them and put so much into them. How do they have time to do that? Aren’t they afraid of ugly pages? How are they able to catch fleeting moments and make it look like they studied the subject for hours? Well, I’m determined to find out.

Thing-A-Day started today. It is a creative sprint for the month of February. Try to do something creative every day for the whole month. I have never accomplished this. I hope to this year. Wish me luck!

Late ATCs

I have a bad habit of either A) not feeling it or B) just being lazy….and so my ATCs tend to get sent out later then the due date. This is not fair for my partners. Even though they get the ATC and usually some fun extras….I should be able to be discplined enough to get them out on time! So my new goal is just that. Get my ATCs out before the due date! Let’s do this thing!

I tried to do another variation on the fish swimming out of the window into the sky again. Once again, it’s not exactly what I was going for, but I think it’s cute. This was my surreal theme.

My favorite horse is the Friesian. I absolutely love these majestic creatures. I am however…not very good at painting black things….so these horses are normally gray, but that’s what he is in my picture. I attempted a fall like background, which colorful leaves.  It looks washed out here, but that white has bright yellow actually. I’m okay with how this one came out. I haven’t drawn horses for a long time.

This is my happy buddha. I like how he came out. For the highlights I used art masking fluid, and then tried to drag some of the color over it, because they really were Highlights! Then I did a fun watercolor wash for the background…there are more pinks, reds, and oranges then my scanner picked up. Then I made the background, which really added to it. This is probably my favorite of any I’ve done in awhile.

My last art swap’s theme was ‘The Mess of Me’. I just had to incorperate everything I could that was ‘me’ on one card. It was harder to do then I imagined, and it didn’t quite come out like I had hoped it would. I think I might try this again in my sketchbook. It’s a fun idea to play with.

And on another note, my first christmas craft was…a fail…but I learned from in and the second one looks much better. So I’m still spending a lot of time on that.

Happy Holidays!
