Hedgies!

Yay for art! So for my art swap challenge I had to make a Hedgie ATC. I decided to do it Sumi-e style. Don’t ask me why, because I don’t know. I think it came out alright.

I had to draw quite a few hedgies before I finally picked one.

I finally got around to drawing my desert woman. She’s been hiding in my bathroom. If you’ve ever seen my bathroom, that statement will make sense to you. We used sponges and a few different colors to decorate the bathroom walls – so there are lots of different shapes and colors for my imagination to work with when I brush my teeth or blow dry my hair. I have found eagles, dogs, dinosaurs, owls, people, and usually it always changes. For some reaons though I have always been able to find my desert woman, she never changes and I’ve been wanting to draw he for awhile. So I finally did.

desest womanI’m sure I’ll draw her again. It’s amazing where inspiration comes from isn’t it?

Pastels and Paris

I had an ATC swap where the only rule is I have to draw, no collage or scrapbooking. Well, my first subject was WALLE. I watched the movie the other day and it never ceases to amaze me that I laugh and smile everytime. That little animated robot has more character and personality then some people I know. So I had to draw him. I used pastels (as you can see by the nice big black smudge mark on the top left) and I’m relatively happy with how he came out. My second ATC was inspired by a postcard I got in the mail the other day. It was pretty and pastel, which the eiffel tower, swirlies, and birds. I really liked the style and I tried to copy it, to some extent. I’m surprisingly bad at swirlies, I can’t get them to flow right. Anyway, the postcard is hanging on my wall, I might try to draw using that style again, we’ll see. The Paris ATC was made with colored pencils.  I think it would have been more fun with pastels. Oh well, you live, you learn.

One thing I do like about pastels. They really do make me feel like a real artist because my hands end up looking like this:

Not so little red riding hood.

red

One of my partners for a postcard swap collected little red riding hood things, and I had recently seen this art piece: http://jadedice.deviantart.com/art/to-g-ma-s-house-we-go-122155106 and I really liked how the color popped out. I love the all black drawings with just one color as the focus. So I tried to do that. Not my best piece, but I like the idea. I think I need more bold black in order for the red to pop more. I’ve got a few ATCs to work on, so you see me again soon. Have a good one!
