Lucky Cat Terrarium

Thanks to my friend Anna and the box of crafty goodies she sent me I was able to finally make a moss terrarium. Something I have always wanted to do, but never really got around to. She sent me the moss, rocks for the bottom, and a little golden ring to put in it. I found the jar at a thrift store for $2 (definitely going to keep my eye open for more) and I got the little pink lucky cat from a craft swap last year. I knew she would have a purpose.

I put the rocks on the bottom, then the soil, then the moss, and decorated. I was reading and it seems that activated charcoal is recommended for one of the layers, but I don’t have any of that around. We’ll see how this one does, if not so well, I’ll find some charcoal.

Have a lucky cat kind of day!

THANKS ANNA!

Yay this makes me happy! Your soil looks so nice, much better than my parking lot dirt. :P Is it potted soil? I’ve also read peat or charcoal are good, and you know, one of my terrariums got mold in quickly without it! Leaving the lid off for a while basically killed it off in a day, but I still feel like it’s dubious. I went to buy activated charcoal at the pet store but it was like $10 for this big bag.. cannot afford! let me know if you find any for cheap anywhere. :/ Also I made another terrarium (i have 2) with this cute cotton ball jar that had an elegant lid… painted the lid copper and discoverd that the color copper contrasts eally prettily with moss colors. <3

It’s actually the compact soil that comes in those little $1 buzzy bee plants. I get them all the time at target. I had some left over from previous pots. Good thing too, because there is no dirt to be found around here right now. It’s all under a huge hunk of ice. I actually went out and bought some soil, getting ready to plant things. :)

I found activated charcoal for five dollars…they seem to be capsules in the vitamin section. Weird. I wonder why you’d ever use that as a suppliment.

I would like to see your other terrarium. I have lots of moss left, so I’m deciding what to do with it. I’d really like to make a large terrarium for my bathroom, but it doesn’t have any windows :(
