Male Goldfinch with Wild Oats

Thing-A-Day starts today and this is my first contribution. If you’ve never heard of it here’s the website: Thing A Day. It’s ‘a creative sprint for the month of February.’ Basically you try to do something creative everyday for at least 20 mins a day. It’s harder then it sounds. I’ve done it twice already, but have never completed the challenge. I hope to change that this year. So if you want to follow my TAD progress, this is my part of the website: Artist-In-Me . I will post here some, but for the month of Feb, I will be posting on that website every day. *Hopefully*

I sketched this drawing from the book ‘Drawing Birds with Colored Pencils’ by Kaaren Poole. I’ve always found birds to be difficult to draw and I need to learn to blend colored pencils better, so that’s why I drew this guy. I might make it a week long theme. We’ll see. I think I will still post once or twice a week here, all my creativity at once. Wish me luck!!!

Garmin Holder

So I got a new Garmin GPS for Christmas because my last one died. I wanted to take better care of this one, so I decided to make a Garmin Pouch! With the help of my aunt, since I’m not very good at sewing, I made this:

I used that ridiculous fabric because it’s adorable and I can’t think of anything else I’d use it for.

Close up:

I think I’ll make one for my cell phone next!

Little Sketches Throughout the Days

I promised the good…..and the not so good. Here are some sketches, just ideas or inspirations that hit me. I haven’t worked on a big piece in awhile. I think I would like to start one soon. As soon as my room is organized.

Okay…stop laughing…..here’s some sketches:

This is just a guy at a volunteer meeting I went to. Someone sat down in front of me and blocked my view before I could give him arms.

Coffee cup, paper plate, and napkin of the women in front of me at the meeting.

Fun little pond scene. Yes, I know I put a saltwater fish in a freshwater pond, but it’s not my fault…..really. He wanted to be there.

Then they started talking about the South Pole, and I thought polar bears, then penguins and seals came next. Not sure why the candle was there….it was a very long meeting….

This one was inspired by a painting Leslie White did. You can find the link here:   http://lesliepaints.wordpress.com/2009/12/24/merry-christmas/

Sorry, you’re going to have to copy and paste because I’m lame and not sure how to make links…but seriously, check it out. It’s a very good painting.

This sketch was inspired by Monet’s ‘Woman with a Parsol’ painting. I would like to get some references and really try to draw more of this type of clothing.

(if you know how to post links, please tell me.)

Last, but not least, a drawing of my new phone, The Rogue! I love this phone, touch screen, super nifty, and yes Weifei, the bunny is still around!

So those are all the sketches I’ve done over the past week. Like I said, hopefully I’ll get into a bigger project soon. Although I do have a few ATC swaps coming up, so keep a lookout for those!

Pointillism

This was an ATC I made for a Pointillism swap. My partner liked dragons and mushrooms, I like how it came out. Although now I remember why I haven’t done pointillism in forever.

I got a tabletop easel for Christmas, so I hope to be painting more often and bigger now. I got a few canvases, different sizes, now I just need a picture I really like or a project to work on. Any suggestions?

Christmas Crafts

So most of my art time was spent making seed bead bracelets on a bead loom. Very time consuming, but the bracelets are so beautiful.

This is the loom I weave on. Putting the strings on there is probably the most frustrating part of the whole process. Definitely takes time and patience. The second thing I don’t always have enough of for this process.

The top bracelet was my first attempt…it actually looks okay here. In reality it was horrible….but at least it held together well (which I found out when I pulled it apart for the beads). My very first attempt, a few years ago, didn’t hold together for even a day.

This is a close up of both patterns. The second bracelet, the white one, I kept for myself. Since it was my first successful bracelet.

I used the lobster claw clasp. I am not good enough to do the normal beaded loops. This bracelet was a gift.

This bracelet was a gift, and actually my favorite one. It always makes me smile when I see my friend wear it. I have some beads left over, I think I might make myself one like this.

Anyone want one of these bracelets?
